Summer changes the way you use your home. The bar moves outside. The kitchen shelf that held jam jars all winter becomes a display. A tray on a garden table becomes the most visited spot of the evening. The setup that worked perfectly indoors in January needs to work just as well on a patio in July, and that means thinking about it differently.

This is not about replicating what you have inside. It is about building something that belongs to the season.

The Outdoor Bar: Portable, Simple and Ready to Pour

An outdoor bar does not need a dedicated surface or a permanent structure. A tray is enough. What matters is that everything you need is already there when people arrive: no going back and forth to the kitchen, no hunting for the right bottle, no delay between sitting down and having something in hand.

The key is portability and cohesion. Every bottle on the tray should look as though it belongs there. A batched cocktail in a Serenade 700ml, a homemade syrup in a Belleville 500ml and a row of Aspect 50ml miniatures filled with the evening's cocktail base: everything clear, everything visible, everything ready.

A light wood or rattan tray keeps it contained and moveable. Fresh mint, a sliced lime and a small bowl of ice are decoration and function at the same time. When the evening is over, the whole thing lifts and comes inside in one move.

The Preserving Shelf: Where Bottles and Jars Meet

One of the most visually striking things you can do in a summer kitchen or outdoor utility space is build a preserving shelf: a dedicated shelf where jars of homemade jam, bottles of cordial, pickles and infused spirits sit together as a working display.

The colours do most of the work. A row of sealed jars containing strawberry jam, peaches in syrup and green cucumber pickles next to bottles of elderflower cordial and infused rum creates something that looks considered without any styling effort. The glass shows everything: the depth of colour, the texture, the clarity of the liquid.

Hexagonal jars work particularly well here because the faceted surface catches light and creates depth even on a flat shelf. Pair them with Dorica 500ml bottles for sauces and cordials and the shelf becomes a genuine feature of the space rather than functional storage.

The one rule: keep lids consistent. A shelf of mixed gold and silver lids looks accidental. A shelf of all gold lids looks deliberate.

The Gift Corner: Miniatures Ready When You Need Them

Summer is full of last-minute occasions: a neighbour's barbecue, a friend's birthday, a dinner you were invited to at short notice. A small collection of filled and labelled miniatures kept ready means you are never without something thoughtful to bring.

Aspect 50ml, Gardi 50ml and Luz 50ml are the formats to work with. Fill them with infused spirits, homemade liqueurs or concentrated syrups. Label with the contents and the date. Keep six to eight ready at any time.

Three Details That Pull It Together

The difference between a setup that looks assembled and one that looks designed almost always comes down to three things.

Consistency of closure. Choose one finish and stick to it across the whole setup. Gold reads as warm and artisan. Black reads as contemporary. Silver is neutral. Mixing all three reads as accidental.

Labels. A handwritten kraft label on every bottle, even just the name of the contents and the date, creates a sense of continuity across different bottle shapes and sizes. It also tells whoever picks up the bottle exactly what they are holding, which matters more than it sounds when there are six bottles on a tray.

Height variation. A setup where every bottle is the same height is flat and uninteresting. Mix 700ml, 500ml and 50ml formats on the same tray or shelf. The variation creates rhythm and draws the eye across the whole display rather than stopping at any one point.
